Our 'New and Improved' Content Management System.
Well it's been a while coming but we are quite relieved to announce the launch of the second version of our Content Management System (CMS).It powers our own website so you can see the features live for yourself, and if you uncover any of our (ahem!) 'intended errors', or just want to let us know what you think then we'd love to hear from you.
Built to meet standards.
We built this CMS to meet the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards on both XHTML 1.0 and CSS2.0, as well as to meet the standards outlined in by the Disability Rights Commission in PAS78.
Packed with new features.
We've included several new features into this new system including:
- Better email handling using the PHPMailer class allowing more secure email transfer and providing the core functionality for a forthcoming Newsletter handler.
- Better image handling giving more flexibility in the transformation of images during the upload using a new image upload class.
- Search engine friendly URLs. If you glance at the address bar it no longer has a string of gibberish in it, now the address of every dynamically created piece of content is mapped to a nice readable URL. Better for you, better for usability, better for search engines.
- Breadcrumb trail at the top of every page. If you look at the space below the main navigation, there is a trail of locations there allowing you to orient yourself within the site upon arriving at any page. One of the most sought after usability features by many users.
- Custom Error pages. No longer are you dropped in a no mans land when you (or we) get it wrong and request something that isn't there. Instead you arrive at a nice friendly page that gives you options of what to do next.
Features planned for the next release.
- An accessibility menu giving options such as high contrast or large text.
- Dynamic image replacement for main headings allowing custom fonts to be used which will display on compatible browsers but will degrade to common fonts on text only and read aloud browsers.
- Better image management to alter the images that are already uploaded to the server.
- Dynamically created pull quotes available for articles and web copy.
- Central control panel in admin area to control behavior of web site elements.
